It's been a little while since I posted last. I have been very busy...very. I finshed the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and even attended a three day workshop hosted by a Covey trainer (the company behind the 7 habits). I must say that it was a truly enlightening experience. For three days we were led on a journey of deep reflection and self discovery. I recall a five minute writing exercise that we did during which we could not let our pen leave the page. Even though my eyes never left the page, I could hear the sniffles of several people around me. Then, the craziest thing started to happen... tears began to fall on my journal. I tried to wipe them away as quickly as I could, but I couldn't stop them. Bottem line: I learned a lot about myself and the relationships that I have with those around me. In one exercise, we were asked to begin drafting a "personal mission statement". The beginning of the exercise required us to write down the 7 most important roles that you play (moter, wife, sister, etc.). After identifying those roles, we had to identify the most important person that was involved in that role with me. Then came the doozie... we had to write exactly what we would want each of those people to say about us at our funeral (or 80th birthday to be less morbid). After that came the real challenge, we had to write what we need to do now so that those persons identified would WANT to say those things about us.... thus we were able to decide what our personal mission statements would be. I encourage you to do this exercise, even if you don't read the book.... what an eye opener!
See ya later... gotta get busy sawing!
